At the end of the GDMBR in 2022

Who we are

Retired and getting on a bit, cycling around New Zealand.

Trying to follow the TA : Tour Aotearoa and then the Sound to Sounds route, but starting from Auckland instead of the far north.

Not breaking any records, hopefully not breaking anything else either!

Our history

Started doing longer tours in 2019 with the Carreterra Austral, having not done more than a days’s riding in one go before! Done lots of backpacking, other outdoor stuff and travel over a lifetime though, which probably counts more than the cycling for being ready for these tours. Have completed the GDMBR (Canada to Mexico off road/unpaved) in 2022. Some shorter tours in UK, best being the An Turas Mor in Scotland which goes from Cape Wrath in the far north west corner to Glasgow off road, easily as good as anything overseas! Plus in 2023 a short trip to Iceland’s West Fjords Way, which was like cycling around Scotland in Winter except it was in July, type 1.5 fun but great scenery.
